WELCOME to Clair de Lune!

We are a highly advanced and literate wild horse roleplay site, and with a fantasy twist as well. Instead of ordinary horses, the denizens of Clair de Lune obtain wondrous powers and abilities when bathed in the light of the full moon, ranging anywhere from extraordinary colors and markings to the power of flight and even dissipating into mist.

 Specific Roleplay Rules
« Thread Started on Aug 18, 2008, 3:57pm »

Here is a detailed list of specifics on every aspect of the roleplay - there are a lot, but be sure you understand all the rules and workings of each aspect before you attempt it yourself. For example, read all the rules on stealing before you attempt to steal another herd member.

Any questions? PM an admin!

Domestic Herd Issues

  • A King or Queen can promote or demote any herd member at any time, whether it is through roleplay or PM. If it is the latter, then they must notify a staff member of the change.
  • Any herd members other than a King or Queen cannot promote or demote other herd members unless specifically stated otherwise by a monarch.
  • Any stallion can breed with any mare of the same or a lower rank than him, but for him to breed with a mare of a higher rank than him is a punishable crime. If an average stallion wants to breed with a mare other than his mate, however, he must first ask permission from the King.

Claiming Horses

  • Only a King, Queen, Duke, or Duchess can claim new members into the herd.
  • A rogue horse can be claimed into any herd, regardless of their personal alliance.
  • If a rogue horse is in the Claiming Meadows, then they must be offered a choice. If more than one lead shows up to offer them a home, the rogue is allowed to choose between them.
  • If a rogue horse is in the Mandate Prairie, then any lead can come and claim them immediately; they have no choice in the matter. They can resist, but ultimately must go with the first lead that claims them.
  • If the rogue horse is a lone colt or filly, then only a mare may claim them. The mare may choose to adopt the colt or filly if she likes.
  • Rogue horses may also travel to any owned herdland to request acceptance from the monarch(s) there.

Claiming Land

  • A Rogue Stallion or Mare may choose to claim any one of the three herds if they are not yet owned.
  • To claim land, simply create a thread on that herdland saying that your character claims it.
  • If there are two contenders for the same piece of land and neither one backs off, then both contenders must fight. (see Fighting)
  • Any Rogue Stallion or Mare may claim land, but keep in mind that if your character is not the kind of caliber for a position of royalty, you will lose your throne very quickly to the first challenger.
  • If a Rogue Mare claims land, and she is challenged by a stallion, then she will almost certainly lose.

Stealing

  • At any time, a King or Queen (if she does not have a King) may choose to steal one herd member of another herd. A King or Queen may steal any member of the other herd, excepting the other herd's King (or Queen, if she is alone). If they steal a mare with a foal, the foal goes with her.
  • At any time, a Rogue Stallion may choose to steal any one of the three herds, if they are already claimed. A Rogue Mare may only steal a herd if there is no King already present.
  • If any one of the above circumstances occurs, then the stealer must post a thread in the Battledrum Plateau, stating clearly who/what they are stealing and who they are stealing it from.
  • The one they are stealing from has three days to reply to this thread if it is a herd member, and six days if it is a herdland. (real life days) If they fail to make an appearance in the allotted time, then the steal was successful, and the stealer gains possession of whatever it was they were stealing. If they successfully steal land, then the new leader may decide whether or not to keep the existing herd members and/or which members to keep.
  • If they do appear, then they must fight for the horse or herdland. (see Fighting)

Fighting

  • If a fight occurs, then both contenders must be present at the Battledrum Plateau.
  • Each contender has four posts, counting from when they both start fighting. (eight posts total) After these eight posts, an admin will post who is the victor of the fight.
  • There will be no argument after an admin has made the decision. They are not biased, and they will make it as fair as possible.
  • There will be no godmoding in a fight. If an admin decides that a contender is godmoding at any time, they will automatically lose the fight.
  • NOTE: Stallions are naturally better fighters than mares. If there is a fight between a stallion and a mare, then chances are the stallion will win. Because of this, a lone Queen of a land will often appoint a stallion King simply to increase the herd's chances of winning fights.

Breeding/Foaling

  • A mare and stallion must breed only in the designated Breeding Grounds and only when the Seasonal Info section says 'Breeding: Yes' (spring or summer), or the foal will be a stillborn. A stallion is also allowed to force-breed a mare if she is in the Mandate Prairie.
  • After breeding, a mare will carry her foal for three real-life months before foaling. Premature foaling, or foaling a real-life week late, will result in a stillborn. You are required to keep track of when your mare was bred and when she should foal.
  • A mare must foal only in the Foaling Thicket, or the foal will be a stillborn.
  • At the time of birth, PM an admin the stats of both sire and dam, and the admin will reply telling you the stats of the foal, whether or not you might have twins, and whether or not it is a stillborn. Even if you do everything correct, you are not guaranteed a foal.
