Welcome to CDL
WELCOME to Clair de Lune!

We are a highly advanced and literate wild horse roleplay site, and with a fantasy twist as well. Instead of ordinary horses, the denizens of Clair de Lune obtain wondrous powers and abilities when bathed in the light of the full moon, ranging anywhere from extraordinary colors and markings to the power of flight and even dissipating into mist.

Meet me in the m o o n l i g h t...

 Rank Systems

For those of you who are still confused about how the rank systems work here, this is a detailed explanation of how it goes. If you still have any questions regarding ranks after you are finished reading this, then PM me about it.

But read it first.

So basically, there are two independent rank systems, one for each individual person and one for your characters in the roleplay. Your rank as a person will be based off of the number of times you post on the forums. For example, posting 50 times will earn you the rank of Peasant. This goes on until 1,600 posts, where you hit the limit of Archduke.

The rank system for your characters, however, are different. You are required to keep track of the ranks of your characters in your signature, as well as on their bios in the Character Info board. Sometimes an admin will make the change for you, but we cannot keep track every single time.

Your character rises in rank through roleplay, either by claiming land, becoming mates, or being promoted by another character. Here are the ranks:

The Royal Family

King: (1 per herd) The King is the equivalent of the lead stallion, responsible for the herd's safety, fighting challengers, and claiming new members. He is the highest-ranking member of the herd, and what he says often goes. He also makes most of the promotions and demotions in a herd, appointing herd members to lower or higher ranks. The King may also challenge another monarch for a herd member, as well as appoint a mare to rule beside him as Queen. In addition, he is allowed to breed with any mare in the herd, whether he already has a mate or not.

Queen: (1 per herd) The Queen is the female ruler of the herd, equivalent to lead mare. She is often the mate of the King, though it is not mandatory. She takes care of the herd's domestic affairs, such as food sources, new births, etc., but if she is alone then she must also answer to challenges to the herd. The Queen may also appoint promotions and demotions and claim new members, and her word is second only to the King. If she is alone, she may appoint a stallion to rule beside her as King.

Heir: (1 per herd) The Heir is appointed by the King and/or Queen to take over the herd once the current monarch(s) retire, and is often the foal of the King and Queen, though it is not mandatory. The Heir may be either gender, though usually the monarchs appoint the firstborn colt. He is highly respected in the herd, and is often pampered by other herd members.

Prince/Princess: (unlimited) Princes and Princesses are only appointed after an Heir is decided, unless the monarchs decide to wait for a colt instead. They are the children of the King and Queen, but they are not in line to succeed the throne. Once the Heir takes over, then the Princes and Princesses are appointed to either Duke, Duchess, Lord, or Lady.

The Nobility

Duke/Duchess: (1 Duke, 1 Duchess per herd) The Duke and Duchess are appointed by the King or Queen to assist them in running the herd. A mare or stallion may become a Duke or Duchess by becoming mates with the current Duke or Duchess, but only if the other position is still open. The Duke and Duchess are not always mates. They are allowed to claim new members into the herd, and they report happenings inside the herd to the King or Queen. A Duke or Duchess is allowed to promote average herd members to Lord or Lady, but only that. They also have the most power in the herd, asides from the royal family. Dukes are allowed to breed with any mare in the herd, asides from the Queen, Heir (if it is a mare), and Princesses.

Lord/Lady: (unlimited) Lords and Ladies are appointed by the King, Queen, Duke, or Duchess of the herd, and they are simply recognized as being above the average herd member. They hold more sway with the main body of the herd, but their power extends only so far. They are not allowed to claim new members, although Lords are allowed to breed with any average mare in the herd.

The Average Horses

Stallion: (unlimited) Stallions are the soldiers of the herd, expected to defend it if it is in danger. They are allowed to breed with any average mare in the herd, though they must first ask permission from the King if the mare is not his mate.

Mare: (unlimited) Mares make up the main body of the herd, and are expected to act as foal-bearers, the mothers of the new generation, though some do not follow this path.

Colt/Filly: (unlimited) Colts and fillies are the children of the herd, raised by their parents and/or other members of the herd.

The Outlaws

Rogue Stallion/Mare/Colt/Filly: These are the outcasts of Clair de Lune, whether they are newcomers or simply cast out of their previous herd. Most go to the Claiming Meadow to be claimed, or travel to a herdland to seek permission to join, although several choose to remain alone.
